Donors allocated $70 million to render food aid to Afghanistan

The Worldwide Food Program (WFP) received $70 million for rendering food aid to the residents of Afghanistan, the agency reports referring to the UN press service.

Almaty. April 15. Kazakhstan Today - The Worldwide Food Program (WFP) received $70 million for rendering food aid to the residents of Afghanistan, the agency reports referring to the UN press service.

According to the UN, WFP intends to purchase 88 thousand tons of foodstuffs for 2.5 million inhabitants of Afghanistan. WFP employees hope that by next Sunday the first round of distribution of food among the needy population will be completed.

WFP draws attention that many inhabitants of Afghanistan are experiencing sharp lack of foodstuffs caused by sharp rise in prices for food, first of all flour and vegetable oil. In some areas of Afghanistan cost of flour for the last year has grown by 60 - 80 %.
