Drought in Russia is dangerous to Caspian caviar

Almaty. August 31. Kazakhstan Today - Scientists warn that black caviar from the Caspian Sea can become one more victim of the Russian drought, the agency reports citing the material of The Financial Times newspaper placed on inopressa.ru. site

According to the scientists from Iran, Germany and Great Britain, the decrease of the sea level in the Caspian Sea in the nearest years can reach three meters because less and less water is coming from Volga.

"It could be bad for sturgeon that is already close to extinction in connection with pollution and over catch. After sharp decrease of livestock, Russia has forbidden sale of Caspian caviar for a few years. The Convention for International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora renewed quotas for export of the Caspian caviar in July."

"Caviar selling companies were looking forward to increasing of sales after opening of the legal market, but now they are worried again," the authors - Fiona Harvey and Luk Simpson write.
