Almaty. September 14. Kazakhstan Today - East Kazakhstan Technical University runs innovative projects in sphere of energy-efficient technologies, Kazakhstan Today reports.

As Caspionet writes, teaching staff of the East Kazakhstan Technical University has shown their appreciation for the President's online lecture which focused on the development of the economy and education. Scientists intend to continue fulfilling the presidential instructions over the introduction of promising and energy-efficient technologies. One such project is already in use and is expected to start bringing profits soon.

Old lampshades with fluorescent bulbs are getting a new lease of life as light-emitting diodes are being added to them to extend the bulb's shelf life and save energy. Such lamps can shine even under water. The lamp re-tooling costs 12 thousand tenge but if the process becomes automated, the net cost will fall.

"We have created a production line of light-emitting diode lamps. We produce 500 pieces a month. But we don't plan to be content with this output. We have a lot of other research designs made by our scientists," Dmitry Titov, Technical Science Department Head, East Kazakhstan State Technical University said.

The university has the highest number of patents in Kazakhstan; many famous companies and universities cooperate with Kazakh scientists. An original idea is first given trial runs in business incubators and then they are sold to customers. The production of light-emitting diodes began on an area of only a few square metres but within less than a year, those behind the idea persuaded everybody that the project was economically viable. The university and the industrial park are now ready to give up ordinary lamps in a move which might help save power to the equivalent of 3 million tenge per year.
