Almaty. February 22. Kazakhstan Today - An Egyptian man has named his first born daughter 'Facebook', Kazakhstan Today reports.

An Egyptian man has reportedly named his new daughter 'Facebook' in a tribute to the social network's role in the recent Egyptian revolution, www.metro.co.uk reported.

CNN reports that Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram - Egypt's biggest newspaper, which was supportive of (and largely owned by) the Mubarak regime - says that the man named his daughter after Mark Zuckerberg's creation in honour of the part it played in kickstarting the protests.

The paper says that Gamal Ibrahim, who is in his twenties, named his newborn girl Facebook 'to express his joy at the achievements made by the January 25 youth.'

"The girl's family, friends, and neighbors in the Ibrahimya region gathered around the new born to express their continuing support for the revolution that started on Facebook," the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram reported. "'Facebook' received many gifts from the youth who were overjoyed by her arrival and the new name," NYDailyNews reported.

Facebook's following in Egypt following has continued to grow since its government upheaval and the nation now has more than 5 million active users - more than anywhere else in the North Africa/Middle East region.

The interim military government is using the site to reach out to young people and to restore confidence after the violence wracked the nation.

Google exec Wael Ghonim, who had been kidnapped for 12 days for organizing protests against the Mubarak government, credited social media, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for allowing the dissemination of ideas and protests.

Facebook is also credited with helping protestors to topple Tunisia's government.
