Environment Protection Minister met European Commission representatives

The Environment Protection Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Iskakov met the chairman of the European Commission Representation in Kazakhstan Adrian van der Meer and the first adviser of the representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan Rezhin Rua, the agency reports referring to the press service of Environment Protection Ministry of the Republic.

Kazakhstan Today - The Environment Protection Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Iskakov met the chairman of the European Commission Representation in Kazakhstan Adrian van der Meer and the first adviser of the representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan Rezhin Rua, the agency reports referring to the press service of Environment Protection Ministry of the Republic.

According to the press service, the main topic of the negotiations became discussion of preparatory measures for the 13 session of the conference of the parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will take place in December, 2007 in Bali.

The parties discussed the questions, concerning positions of Kazakhstan and EU on the second period of realization of Kyoto protocol. "According to the first period of realization of the protocol (2008-2012), the industrialized countries plan to reduce cumulative emissions of hotbed gases by at least 5 % in comparison with the level of 1990," the department explained.

According to the press service, "the representatives of EU Commission expressed hope that Kazakhstan will support EU project of the plan of realization of the second stage of Kyoto protocol.

Adrian van der Meer expressed interest concerning preparation for signing the agreement between the governments of the Peoples Republic of China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on the integrated management of Ili-Balhash pool.
