Environmental protection issues discussed in Astana

Discussion of the environmental protection, development of economy, and construction of the civil society in the context of regional challenges took place in Astana at the 71st seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Rose-Roth on Friday, the agency reports citing the press service of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Today - Discussion of the environmental protection, development of economy, and construction of the civil society in the context of regional challenges took place in Astana at the 71st seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Rose-Roth on Friday, the agency reports citing the press service of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

According to the press service, addressing the participants of the forum with a welcoming speech, the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, said that the role of Central Asia in the system of global security is gaining special importance on the background of the complicated events occurring in the world.

According to the Speaker, development of relations with the Central-Asian states is one of the main diplomatic priorities of our country. It is so die to the close interlacing of political, trade and economic and cultural-humanitarian interests.

Kazakhstan's adherence to strengthening of regional security is based on the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in 1992 at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly about convocation of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). "Today CICA has become an important factor of modern international relations. Such international associations as SCO and CSTO, which created a strong foundation for stability and cooperation in the region, have proved to be of big importance," K. Tokayev stated.

As for the situation in Afghanistan, K. Tokayev noted the interest of Kazakhstan in sustainable development of this country. The Speaker has emphasized the special role of the Kazakhstan-Afghani Intergovernmental Commission in development of the processes of involvement of Afghanistan into the integration processes in the region and strengthening of mutual economic and humanitarian cooperation.
