Environmental Protection Ministry suggests directing all ecological payments to National Fund

The Environmental Protection Ministry of Kazakhstan has suggested directing all ecological payments to the National Fund and spending them only for ecological needs. The Minister of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan, Nurgali Ashimov, informed in Majilis at the session of the Committee for Ecology and Wildlife Management on Tuesday, the agency reports.

Kazakhstan Today - The Environmental Protection Ministry of Kazakhstan has suggested directing all ecological payments to the National Fund and spending them only for ecological needs. The Minister of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan, Nurgali Ashimov, informed in Majilis at the session of the Committee for Ecology and Wildlife Management on Tuesday, the agency reports.

"Ecology for the mayors of our country has become a source of revenue (financial resources in the local budget). At best, 23 % is spent on ecology and the rest - on other purposes," N. Ashimov said.

"70-80 billion KZT of ecological payments is collected every year. According to the Kiyoto Protocol, it is forbidden to spend money on something else but the nature protection measures.

"This money should be directed for realization of the nature protection measures."
