Ex-Chairman of the Customs Control Committee sentenced to 10 years in prison

"Baimaganbetov has been recognized guilty of an offense under Article 311, Part 5 of the Criminal Code (bribery), and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a penal colony with confiscation of property".

Astana. January 9. Kazakhstan Today - Specialized Inter-district criminal court in Astana has sentenced the former head of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan Serik Baimaganbetov who was accused of bribery on a large scale and abuse of authority, to 10 years in prison, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"Baimaganbetov has been recognized guilty of an offense under Article 311, Part 5 of the Criminal Code (bribery), and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a penal colony with confiscation of property," the judge Erlan Kosmuratov said.

Under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power) Baimaganbetov has been acquitted for lack of evidence of the crime.

We recall that Baimaganbetov was accused of taking bribes totaling $ 80 thousand for the appointment to the post of deputy head of one of the regional departments of Customs and its total protection.

He also was accused of abuse of power by giving illegal instructions on taking to work for the customs control of persons who actually did not perform their duties.

As previously reported, on June 15 the Agency for Combating Economic and Corruption Crimes completed the investigation of the criminal case against the former chairman of the Customs Control Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan Serik Baimaganbetov.
