First judicial session in Shahtinsk to take place on January 23

Karaganda. January 16. Kazakhstan Today - Preliminary hearings on the criminal proceedings instituted on the fact of the mine explosion in the Karaganda oblast on September 20, 2006 took place in the court of Shahtinsk city today, the agency reports.

According to the press service of the Office of the Public Prosecutor of the Karaganda oblast, today the court heard the petition about the change of punishment of five arrested former workers of the mine and established the order of interrogation of the process participants.

The first judicial session will take place on January 23, 2007. "The process will be open," the Office of the Public Prosecutor assured.

As it was informed earlier, as a result of the event on September 20, the explosion of methane in the mine named after Lenin in the Karaganda oblast, 41 miners died, 8 people were heavily injured, four received light injures. The governmental commission named rough infringements of requirements of labor safety and safety precautions as the reason for the explosion. The commission also came to the conclusion that 22 people including former chairmen of the company Mittal Steel Temirtau are involved in the event. However, the accusation was brought against eight technical officers of the mine, five from whom have been arrested and three have been given a written undertaking not to leave the place.
