Fourth transplant procedure performed in Kazakhstan

"We consulted the doctors and I was tested. We have the same blood type, and, in general, I matched to be a donor for him. So, of course, I agreed to donate part of my liver to make him live and end all disease and suffering we had battled. Everything will be alright".

Almaty. August 29. Kazakhstan Today - Last Saturday, another liver transplant surgery was performed at the Syzganov National Scientific Surgery Centre in Almaty, Kazakhstan Today reports.

As Caspionet writes, 37-year-old Olga was her 52-year-old husband Yermek's donor.

"We consulted the doctors and I was tested. We have the same blood type, and, in general, I matched to be a donor for him. So, of course, I agreed to donate part of my liver to make him live and end all disease and suffering we had battled. Everything will be alright", Olga Yurchenko, Yermek Mukurov's Wife and Donor said.

The surgery lasted 13 hours. Two teams of surgeons replaced each other by turns. They were assisted by their counterparts from Japan. Furthermore, the latter praised the skills of Kazakh doctors. The surgery was followed by a conference organised by the centre. Kazakh Health Minister Salidat Kairbekova thanked the doctors via video conferencing. She also encouraged people in Kazakhstan to develop a culture of donation in the country.

"Organ transplantation can now be performed in Kazakhstan. And you can see the health care system, the overall level of development and health-care workers are ready for this. The only problem we have is associated with the shortage of organs. And I think that people in Kazakhstan will support this good cause", Salidat Kairbekova, Kazakh Minister of Health stated.

The Syzganov National Scientific Surgery Centre scheduled 50 transplant procedures of various organs - kidneys, heart and liver - for this year. This task has mainly been fulfilled, doctors say. The remaining two liver transplant procedures will be carried out in November.

"And next year, we will double the number of such procedures. Otherwise, there is no sense at all to start performing these operations and step on this path. We have to perform more of them to make transplant care cover 100 percent of patients", Zhetkergen Arzykulov, General Director, Syzganov National Scientific Surgery Centre said.
