Government amendments into mass media legislation – roll away from democratic principles

Almaty. June 7. Kazakhstan Today - Political council of the Republican party Asar considers that the bill On amendments and additions into mass media acts of Kazakhstan developed by the Ministry of Culture and Information crosses out democratization progress reached for the last years, the agency reports.

Kazakhstan mass media legislation has required reforming for a long time. However, these changes should correspond to qualitatively new stage of development of the country and promote its advancement along the way to economic prosperity and democracy, Asar political council petition says.

The political council considers that one of the major tasks is further development of civil society. First of all, it is important to provide the rights of citizens to free access and distribution of information, creation of real conditions for freedom of speech and expansion of all mass media activities, the document states.
