Government amendments to mass media legislation - censorship, Nazarbayeva

Astana. June 22. Kazakhstan Today – Majilis deputy Dariga Nazarbayeva considers that the government amendments to mass media legislation are the barefaced form of censorship, she stated on Wednesday at the plenary Majilis session during discussion of the bill "Amendments and additions into mass media acts," the agency reports.

"It is one more attempt to impose mass media censorship. There is nothing else more behind it that I can see," D. Nazarbayeva considers. With the adoption of the amendments each mass media agency will be under the threat of closing for the slightest slip and not because it has broken freedom of speech or has opposed constitutional foundations of the state.

In the interview D. Nazarbayeva emphasized that introduced amendments will be negatively reflected in the relations of the international community to Kazakhstan.

Majilis continues debating the bill.
