IAEA new General Director elected

New General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been elected, the agency reports citing the United Nations press service.

Almaty. July 3. Kazakhstan Today - New General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been elected, the agency reports citing the United Nations press service.

According to the international organization, on July, 2nd the Board of Directors of the International Atomic Energy Agency voted for election of the Permanent Representative of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, Yukiya Amano, IAEA General Director. Yukiya Amano will replace Mohamed el-Baradey who occupied the post since 1997. His term came to an end on November, 30.

23 members of the Board of Directors voted for Yukiya Amano and 11 members for his colleague and competitor from Southern Africa, Abdul Samad Minty.
