'Infection X': Kazakh head state medical officer warned of new virus

The world has a new type of infection codenamed 'Infection X', Kazakhstan's head state medical officer Zhandarbek Bekshin told during a briefing in the Central Communications Service.

The WHO data indicates that yearly the world registers over billion cases of infectious diseases. 16 million of them are lethal. Last 20 years alone more than 30 new and re-entering infections have occurred, including Dengue, Ebola, Coronaviridae. We can say that in this year a new infection has occurred codenamed 'Infection X' in the WHO, which is global and threatening. It is a new threat of this year," he said in the press conference in Astana.


According to him, specialists have not been able to give it the kind of in-depth study. In addition, he has noted that there are still risks of Ebola.

We know that in 2014-15, the Western African countries faced Ebola virus. More than 30 thousand were infected, and over 10 thousand died. It still continues to prevail this year. In Congo, about 50 cases have already been registered. In these conditions, we pay attention to other cases. We know that there are natural hotbeds of plague in Kazakhstan, as well as these of Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever. Cases with brucellosis are also recorded. In these conditions the construction and activity of this laboratory are valid for Kazakhstan," said the speaker.
