Kazakhstan authorities should stop prosecution of religious community Society for Krishna Consciousness - E. Zhovtis

E. Zhovtis acted as the expert at the hearing devoted to discussion of the application of Kazakhstan for the OSCE presidency in 2009.

According to press service of the Society for Krishna Consciousness in Kazakhstan, the hearing proceeded for more than one and a half hours, 25 minutes of which were devoted to the discussion of the situation around the Society for Krishna Consciousness in Kazakhstan.

"The authorities of Kazakhstan should demonstrate commitment to the principles and values of OSCE in the field of human measurement and undertake a number of specific practical steps in the field of development of democracy, rule of law and compliance with human rights," E. Zhovtis stated during his speech.

E. Zhovtis along with the chairmen of Almaty Helsinki Committee Ninel Fokina, the representatives of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and the Society for Krishna Consciousness of Kazakhstan has held in Brussels a number of meetings with the representatives of the Euro Parliament and the European commission for the last 2 weeks, the press centre of the Society for Krishna Consciousness in Kazakhstan states.

In the near future a number of similar meetings are planned to be held in London. In particular, on Monday the hearing will take place in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Great Britain at 18.00, the press release informs.

As it was informed earlier, the conflict around of the Community of Krishna has lasted since 2004. In November, 2006 the local authorities demolished 14 houses of the believers of the community, on June 15, 2007 - 12 more houses.
