Astana. July 25. Kazakhstan Today - The National Chamber of Health held a roundtable to discuss the creation of private banks of stem cellsin Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Private banks are expected to provide personal storage of stem cells as a biological insurance of the future generation, the press service of the National Center for Health Development informed.

Chairman of the National Chamber, Maksut Kulzhanov in his speech said that the global experience of the banks of stem cells, development of cellular technology, the widespread introduction into the practice of transplants of stem cells and the constant expansion of the conditions for their use necessitates the development of this field in Kazakhstan. The competitive environment with the participation of both public and private stem cell banks can contribute to this, the press service informed.

According to the National Chamber of Health, existing law allows the activity in the field of procurement and storage of stem cells only to public health organizations.

"Roundtable participants agreed on the urgency of the issue and noted the need for changes and amendments to existing regulations regarding the harvesting and storing stem cells, enhancing public-private partnership in this area. Need to make changes and additions is prompted by the lack of services for personal storage stem cells in Kazakhstan, which forces our citizens to apply for these services to foreign private banks", the press service concluded.
