Almaty. September 11. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan initiates to hold World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2012 in Astana. The Environment Protection Minister Nurlan Iskakov said on Friday during discussion of the project Concepts of Kazakhstan Transition to Sustainable Development for 2006-2024 with NGO representatives, the agency reports.
"Kazakhstan is the party of the European and Asian processes of the environment protection and sustainable development," the Minister said. Kazakhstan proposes to unite these two processes under Eurasian process of environment protection and sustainable development with the secretariat in Astana. We would like to hold the third Summit of the Earth - Sustainable Development of Eurasia in Kazakhstan, on the Eurasian continent," N. Iskakov noted.

Oil spill detected in Caspian Sea
According to space monitoring data, received from Sentinel-1A (02:43 UTC), an oil spill was detected on March 30 in the area of Kashagan field in the Caspian Sea. The spill area is about 7 square kilometers. The spill was drifting to the north of the Caspian Sea," the publication reads.
If these facts are confirmed by Atyrau region’s Ecology Department, unscheduled inspection will be conducted at the North Caspian Operating Company. The results will be reported additionally," the Ecology Committee says.
