Kazakhstan to test 5G mobile communication in 2019

The introduction of 5G mobile communication in Kazakhstan will be possible after the adoption of the standard of 5G by the International Telecommunication Union.
The Ministry of Information and Communications is to define a communication operator to conduct pilot testing of 5G mobile communication technologies. It was said by head of the Ministry Dauren Abayev.

Ater the adoption of 5G standard by the International Telecommunication Union, the producers of telecommunication devices will start a mass production of the devices that work in the adopted standard. In turn, the Ministry plans to conduct pilot testing of 5G mobile communication technologies in the 2nd quarter of 2019," said Minister of Information and Communication Dauren Abayev at the session of the Government of Kazakhstan.


According to him, as of today the Ministry has held the work on the selection of frequencies in Astana, Almaty and Akmola, Almaty regions and for pilot testing of 5G mobile communication and agreement on them with the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan.

At the same time, the resources of frequencies agreed with the Ministry of Defense are sufficient to conduct testing 5G technologies only for one of the operators. That is, the Ministry is to define a communication operator in the near future to conduct pilot testing of 5G mobile communication technologies," he said.


As Abayev said, the introduction of 5G mobile communication in Kazakhstan will be possible after the adoption of 5G standard by the International Telecommunication Union, which will define frequency bands and technical specifications.

The adoption of the decision is planned at the 2019 World Radiocommunication Forum.

5G technology enables: to offer the speed by 40 more than 4G mobile communication technology (which is sufficient to watch a 3D video and to download the film in this format for over 6 seconds); to reduce the signal delay (depending on the destribution environment and the frequency used, the signal will be transmitted to the user with a certain delay); to apply it to hold remote operations online, the quick response of industrial robots, remote control over agricultural vehicles, monitoring of fields and so on.
