Kazakhstan universities could have the right to decide on the cost of education - the Minister

According to the draft law in terms of regulating the financial policy, it is proposed to eliminate the norm that regulates the cost of education in the universities on a paid basis.
Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sagadiyev believes that it is right to provide an opportunity for fee-paying departments of the universities to appoint the cost of education independently.

The amendment is aimed at expanding an access of citizens to getting high education, as well as that of socially vulnerable layers of the population. These are key changes. The draft law is agreed with the state bodies," said Yerlan Sagadiyev at the plenary session of the Majilis.

At the same time, on the sidelines of the session, the Minister said that the universities could appoint the cost of education independently according to the draft law.

We plan to eliminate the norm according to which fee-paying education should not be cheaper or more expensive than granted education and the universities will define the payment norm they choose, as well as to attach certain calculation. We present grants and the cost remains the same. Can you understand that there are many people who think that the education is vey cheap in our country, and the same number of population think that the education is vey expensive. We consider it right to give the right for the universities mainly for the fee-paying departments to appoint independently the cost of education under the condition that the majority study on the granted basis, and mainly in the national universities," said the head of the Ministry.
