KPO fined 178 mln tenge for pollution

The special interregional economic court of the Western Kazakhstan Region decided to fine KPO 178 million tenge (over $1.1 million) for polluting the environment.

Uralsk. July 12. Kazakhstan Today - The special interregional economic court of the Western Kazakhstan Region decided to fine international consortium Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO), the developer of the Karachaganak field in the Western Kazakhstan region, 178 million tenge (over $1.1 million) for polluting the environment, Kazakhstan Today reports.

Zhaiyk-Caspian Department of ecology addressed to the court demanding to recover 178 million tenge in damages to the environment.

The lawsuit is motivated by the fact that during the unscheduled inspection of the KPO to comply with environmental legislation, in particular on the allocation and utilization of waste, it was found that in the KPC (Cavalier number 5) about 4 tons of construction wasteis placed. In this case we have the unauthorized placement of construction waste on the Cavaliere number 5, not designated for such purposes, without permission, resulting in the prescribed manner, noted in the Province Court.

The court has satisfied the claim for the recovery of 178 328 520 tengeto state revenue to the KPO as compensation for damages for the unauthorized disposal of waste.
