Labor Ministry: 6% of the population of Kazakhstan - oralmans

Over half of the ethnic Kazakhs who arrived on the historical homeland are former citizens of Uzbekistan.
Speaking during the press conference devoted to Kazakh-German integration policy, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Labor and Social Protection and Migration of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Kazakhstan Yerlan Raiganiyev voiced out the migration statistics for the years of Kazakhstan’s Independence.

Due to results of measures undertaken within the period of independence more than a million representatives of the Kazakh diaspora came from abroad for permanent residence in Kazakhstan. It is about 6% of the total population of Kazakhstan without taking into account their natural increase.

According to him, the great number of oralmans, ( 61% ) came back from Uzbekistan, about 13% from China, 12% - from Mongolia, Turkmenistan - 7.5%, Russia - 4%.

It should be noted since gaining sovereignty Kazakhstan has been pursuing a consistent migration policy. A migration law has been adopted, based on the principles of recognition and guarantee rights and freedoms of migrants in accordance with the norms of international treaties. In addition, we have adopted separately the Law on Employment, which regulates all norms on labour migration. Moreover, one of the tasks set by the Head of State is to facilitate the resettlement of ethnic Kazakhs," the speaker resumed.
