"As of today, 145 HIV infected children, who received treatment in the medical organizations since the end of 2005 till September 2006, have been registered. Additional cases of infection after October 1, 2006 have not been revealed," V. Dudnik said. "17 HIV infected mothers have been registered as well," he continued.

In this connection, the department of public health services worked in several directions. "It is revealing children, their treatment, putting in order the system of blood service, strengthening AIDS service and the work with organizations of public health services."

As of today, 65 children are receiving anti-virus therapy. They are completely provided with free medicine and medical products at the expense of the state. The issue of rehabilitation of HIV infected children has been solved. The families have received psychosocial help in the sanatorium Ala Tau," V. Dudnik said.

"The following measures have been taken to localize HIV infection and stabilize sanitary-clinical situation in the oblast: all medical organizations have been fully provided with disposable medical equipment, 364 units of sterilizing equipment for the sum 109 million KZT were purchased. Blood service has been reorganized; storage and delivery of blood have been centralized," the chairman of the department informed.

Last year we checked 373 thousand people (more than 16 % of the population of the Southern Kazakhstan), including: 80 thousand children, 14 thousand medical employees, 17 thousand donors, 2. 5 thousand recipients and 142 thousand pregnant women.
