Major AI Hackathon Featuring OpenAI Technology to Be Held in Kazakhstan

HackAlem AI, one of the world’s largest AI hackathons, will take place in Astana on September 23, bringing together thousands of developers, students, young professionals and tech enthusiasts from Kazakhstan and other countries, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development said.

Participants will gain access to up to $1 million worth of OpenAI technology resources to develop and launch their own AI solutions. Winners will also receive $100,000 in OpenAI API tokens, while an additional $100,000 will be offered in cash prizes.

The winners will be presented with their awards at the AI & Digital Bridge 2026 international technology forum.

"Holding HackAlem AI in Kazakhstan is an important step in developing the country’s AI ecosystem. We are creating an environment where developers from Kazakhstan and other countries can gain access to advanced technologies, build solutions and scale them for the global market," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev said.

During the hackathon, teams will develop AI products aimed at addressing practical challenges faced by businesses, government and various sectors of the economy. The best projects will have the opportunity to continue their development and potentially move into pilot programmes with partners.

The hackathon is open to adult developers, students, young professionals and tech enthusiasts. Applicants must have experience or education in software development or technology, or demonstrate their skills through their own projects, prototypes, applications or research.

Participants must attend HackAlem AI in person in Astana on September 23.

Registration for the hackathon is now open.
