Majority of women in the world earn less men - ILO

The majority of women in the world is still occupied in less profitable fields of activity or receives lower wages than men, having the same responsibilities.

Almaty. March 7. Kazakhstan Today - The majority of women in the world is still occupied in less profitable fields of activity or receives lower wages than men, having the same responsibilities. The International Labor Organization states on the occasion of the International Women's day in the report on tendencies in the sphere of labor employment of women, prepared by the International Labor Organization, the agency reports referring to the UN press center.

According to the ILO, for the last 10 years the number of working women has grown by almost 200 million and last year reached 1.2 billion.

The authors of the report note that difference between occupation level among men and women for the last decade has been reduced a little, however, it still remains significant. Last year number of working women was by 600 million fewer than men.

The document underlines that 36.1 % of working women work in agriculture and 46.3 % - in the sphere of service.

According to the ILO, despite of growth of number of working women in the world, unemployment among them has reached record level - 6.4 %, among men unemployment rate is a little below - 5.7 %. 81.6 million of women of able-bodied age were unemployed last year.
