Malaysian telecommunication satellite Measat-1R has been damaged at Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the source at the cosmodrome.

Baikonur. August 11. Kazakhstan Today - Malaysian telecommunication satellite Measat-1R has been damaged at Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the source at the cosmodrome.

The special commission has been created to reveal the reasons of a supernumerary situation. The character of the damages has been defined. The decision on the necessary repair and elimination of the accident consequences will be made after the check of the satellite. In this connection, the launch of satellite Measat-1R can be postponed for later term.

As it was informed earlier, preparation for launch of the rocket carrier Zenith-3SLB with the Malaysian satellite Measat-1R has continued at Baikonur.

The rocket carrier Zenith-3SLB with the space satellite Measat-1R launch from the starting complex of the platform №45 was earlier planned for August 22 at 02.21.

Measat-1R weighting 2417 kg was made on the basis of the platform Star for small geostationary satellites by the American company Orbital Sciences Corporation (OSC) at the order of Malaysian communication operator Measat Satellite Systems, which have 12 transponders of C-range and a Qu-range and is intended for granting communication services and transfer of TV signal of high clearness for Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries of Southern Asia. Satellite Measat-1R service life is 15 years in a geosteady-state orbit.
