Ministry of Health informs children became infected with hepatitis C not through blood transfusion

Astana. January 14. Kazakhstan Today - The Commission of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan has excluded the fact of infection of leukaemia children with hepatitis C in the pediatric centre or the Republican Blood Centre. The press release of the Ministry of Health published today states, the agency reports.

"The commission studied medical histories of three thousand children receiving treatment in the centre during the period from 2007 until 2009, donors, whose blood or its components were used for treatment of children in the centre, have been repeatedly analyzed, technological process of blood preparation in the Republican Blood Centre have been studied as well in regards to possibility of infection with hepatitis C from the infected donors.

According to the press service, "the commission has excluded the possibility of infection of leukaemia children with hepatitis C in the pediatric centre and also possibility of their infection through blood, or its components prepared in the Republican Blood center."

"The results of the investigation are as follows: the most probable source of infection (73,6 %) can be stomatological procedures, intravenous injections (44,3 %), surgical operations (7,5 %), and also injuries (1,8 %).

As informed earlier, mothers of leukaemia children at the press conference in Almaty said that their children had been infected with hepatitis C through blood transfusion.
