More than 2 thousand cases of HIV-infection registered in Kazakhstan in 2009

Astana. February 22. Kazakhstan Today - 2081 cases of HIV-infection were registered in Kazakhstan in 2009. The Minister of Health of Kazakhstan, Zhaksylyk Doskaliev, informed in the Ministry of Health during the session of the members of the regional committee of the project for AIDS control, the agency reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Health.

"2081 cases of HIV-infection were registered in 2009. The disease indicator per 100 thousand people amounts to 13.1 (in 2008 - 2335 cases, an indicator - 15) that is by 254 cases less than in 2008. It is a good tendency," Z. Doskaliev said.

According to the press service, the EurAsEC AIDS control Project has been implemented since 2006 in four Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). "The project is financed by the International Development Association, which has allocated $25 million, and the Department for International Development of Great Britain (DFID), which has allocated $2 million," the press service informed.

"The purpose of the project - to bring contribution to control over spread of HIV/AIDS in the state-participants of the project on struggle against AIDS in Central Asia by creation of the regional mechanism for rendering support to the national HIV/AIDS programs."
