Nazarbayev gives instruction to allocate 100 billion tenges to develop science

The Kazakh head of state has ordered to ensure the development of such future economic directions as alternative energy, new material, biomedicine, big data, artificial intelligence and so on.
The Kazakh President instructed the government to allocate not less than 100 billion tenges each year to develop science in Kazakhstan.

Special attention should be placed to develop innovative and service sectors of the economy. Firstly, it is necessary to ensure the development of such directions as the economy of the future, alternative energy, new materials, biomedicine, big data, artificial intelligence, and others," said Nazarbayev.

According to him, if it is not achieved, then in the period of 10 years we will 'bite the dust in the back' of other countries, and Kazakhstan will never improve.

The future and role in the global world of the country depend on it. And, we are not worse than other states. Therefore, I instruct the government jointly with Nazarbayev University to work out special programmes for each direction and to define certain projects. Mr. Shigeo Katsu, a rector at the University, reported me that works were held on these directions and that the government did not pay attention to it, or show interest, as well as did not adopt it. I assigned him to continue to work on this deed," said the head of state.

He also noted that another such project was the creation of a scientific and research institute for developing artificial intelligence technologies on the base of the University.

It is the forefront of scientific and technical progress the entire world pursue," said Nazarbayev.
