Number of HIV-infected grown in Kyrgyzstan

Number of HIV-infected people has grown in Kyrgyzstan, the epidemiologist of the Republican Association AIDS, Aygul Ismailova, informed the agency.

Bishkek. July 16. Kazakhstan Today - Number of HIV-infected people has grown in Kyrgyzstan, the epidemiologist of the Republican Association AIDS, Aygul Ismailova, informed the agency.

As of July 1, 2008, official number of HIV-infected reached 1 thousand 724 people, including citizens of the country - 1 thousand 591 people, and AIDS patients - 121. 199 HIV-infected died. 88 people died from AIDS.

"HIV cases have been registered in all regions of Kyrgyzstan, but the alarming situation is in the Osh oblast where number of HIV-infected makes 48.8 % (777 people) of the general number registered in the country," the epidemiologist added.

The situation has considerably become complicated by an outburst of HIV-infection of children in Nookat region. As it was informed earlier, 78 children with HIV diagnosis have been registered from May of 2007 up to July 1 2008 in the Osh oblast. Epidemiological expertise has shown that infection has occurred in the medical prophylactic organizations of the Osh oblast.

"The chairmen of organizations of public health services have not paid due attention to problems of intra hospital infections, which are the main reasons for complications of diseases and death leading to sharp increase of cost and duration of stay in a hospital," A. Ismailova considers.
