Ombudsmen received over 500 messages from citizens

Astana. July 11. Kazakhstan Today - The representative of human rights received over 500 messages from citizens in the second quarter of 2006, announced director of the National Human Rights Centre Vyacheslav Kalyuzhny at a press conference on Monday in Astana.

“For the second quarter we have received 360 written and 143 oral messages. The greatest number of them were coming from Kyzylorda and Almaty oblasts and Astana and Almaty cities,” V. Kalyuzhny said.

He also noted that most of the messages are similar to those of the previous period. 20% of complaints were connected with disagreement with the decisions of courts. Same number of complaints are addressed on actions and non-actions of law enforcement bodies, around 10% are connected with questions of pension provision, almost 9% - with violation of housing rights.

V. Kaluzhny underlined that 27% of complaints received positive resolutions. “Meaning that rights of the addressing have been maintained,” he explained. According to the results of review of complaints, that human rights representative has received, the state has punished a number of officials.
