Over 600 Almaty residents took part in bike ride in honor of Olympic champions

The day before the cycling race bikers of Almaty had organized a rally to support Kazakhstan Olympic medalists.

Almaty. August 14. Kazakhstan Today - On the last day of the Olympic Games Almaty has organised a cycling race to support Kazakhstan Olympians. On early Sunday morning over 600 cyclists came to the start, Kazakhstan Today reports.

According to Caspionet, active supporter of cycling sport the Almaty mayor Akhmetzhan Yessimov was the first to have arrived at the start. All along the road police officers greeted athletes and cleared up highways to pass the cyclists. Famous bicker Dmitry Petrukhin was among the participants. The day before the cycling race bikers of Almaty had organized a rally to support Kazakhstan Olympic medalists. The city mayor came to the finish first. When speaking with the cycling race participants the mayor said that after the victory of Alexander Vinokourov at the 30th Olympics overall numbers of cycling sportsmen has increased.

In the end of the arrangement, Yesimov handed memorial presents to the participants of the ride and called people to be active in sport. He applied to the drivers to be cultural at the roads and respect cyclists.

"We must acculturate it among our drivers, for a bicycle to be not just sport but a popular means of transport in Almaty. It is important for the ecology of the metropolis," he said.

He marked the Olympic Games in London demonstrated significance of sport in the country.
