Plan of measures directed at improvement of ecological condition accepted in Almaty

Almaty. May 22. Kazakhstan Today - Ecological hearings, during which the plan of measures has been accepted directed at improvement of ecological condition in Almaty city took place in Almaty on Wednesday, the agency reports.

The main environmental problem of Almaty is air pollution. Thus, it has been noted that Almaty flora requires urgent improvement. Many trees are sick and many have been planted without taking into account atmospheric circulation.

Many cars do not correspond to standards accepted in Kazakhstan. Big problem is quality of gasoline sold in Almaty gas stations. According to Director of Independent Center of Inspection of Mineral Oil Organic Akmaral Kalmuratova, they often sell at gas stations back-yard gasoline and factory gasoline does not always correspond to the norms.

Discussing these and other problems, participants of hearings have decided to improve environment in several directions.

In particular, the Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Iskakov named six directions of solution of the main ecological problems of Almaty. "First, it is reduction of import of motor transportation not corresponding to the standards Euro in the country. The government has made a decision on manufacture of vehicles and gasoline in conformity with standards Euro-2. Our goal is to ensure its observance," the minister said.

Following the results of the hearings, the participants accepted decision, which will be in the near future directed to the Parliament, the government and the profile ministries.

The decision, in particular, provides recommendations to introduce amendments to the Code of Kazakhstan on Taxes and Other Obligatory Payments to the Budget, which necessitate increase of tax on vehicles depending on the year of their manufacture. The older a vehicle is, the higher the tax will be.

It has also been recommended to introduce amendments to the Code of Kazakhstan on Administrative Offences, which necessitate toughening administrative responsibility for exploitation of motor transportation and other vehicles that excessively emit polluting substances. "The other amendment to this code should provide increased tax payments for vehicles not corresponding to the requirements of technical regulations."
