PM urges to submit proposals on development of mass sports in Kazakhstan

The Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy were instructed to consider development of the program of development of sports in the country and make proposals to the Government by September 1 of the current year.

Almaty. July 9. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakh Prime Minister SerikAkhmetov has held a telephone conference of the Government in Ukimet Uyi today. Chairman of the Agency of Sports and Physical Education Yerlan Kozhagapanov has delivered a keynote speech on the development of mass sports in Kazakhstan.

As the Prime Minister's official website reports, organization and holding of sports events plays an important role in the development of mass sports. If in 2011 there were organized around 17 thousand sports events, then in 2012 more than 18 thousand events involving more than 3.6 million people were held. Coverage of people engaged in physical culture and sports in the country amounted to 21.6%.

We also observe the dynamic development of non-Olympic sports. Kazakhstan athletes took part in the major sport events. A total of 316 medals were won in 2012, Kozhagapanov said.

Also, the development of national sports is underway. In 2012, Kazakh athletes won 226 medals in international and national competitions, he added.

"Thanks to the support of the President of Kazakhstan the sphere of physical culture and sport is rapidly growing. This is proved by the results of participation of the national team at the Summer Olympics in London. For the first time in the international arena athletes of our country won 7 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals. The total number of medals won in official sporting events is about a thousand," Kozhagapanov noted.

Minister of Education and Science Zhumagulov, akims of East Kazakhstan, South Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions also spoke on this theme.

Summarizing the discussion, Serik Akhmetov said that the President instructed to increase the number of people engaged in mass sports to 30% by 2020.

"We need to focus on the development of public health, education and importance of a healthy lifestyle. All state agencies, NGOs, the media and employers should be involved in this work. The Head of State stressed that the mass sport and elite sport required an integrated system approach. This factor should be taken into account by the Government," Akhmetov stressed.

In this regard, the Prime Minister instructed the Sports and Physical Education Agency together with the concerned authorities to submit in due time the draft law "On Physical Culture and Sports" in the new edition.

Also, the Agency in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy were instructed to consider development of the program of development of sports in the country and make proposals to the Government by September 1 of the current year.

The Ministry of Education and Science together with the governors of regions, Astana and Almaty cities were charged until the start of the new school year to return 3 hours of compulsory physical education classes in public schools; take steps to restore or open groups of medical physical training for children with impaired health at schools; ensure 100% coverage of the physical education teachers who receive additional payments for extra-curricular work on the program of healthy living.
