Preparation for launch of the rocket carrier Proton-M with three Russian navigating satellites began at Baikonur on Thursday, the agency reports referring to Roscosmos press service.

Baikonur. August 8. Kazakhstan Today - Preparation for launch of the rocket carrier Proton-M with three Russian navigating satellites began at Baikonur on Thursday, the agency reports referring to Roscosmos press service.

Delivery of the satellites made by the enterprise of Reshetnikov Information Satellite Systems in the city of Zheleznogorsk (Russia) is expected next week.

The experts of the main plant and Baikonur Center №2 of Barmin General Engineering Design Bureau started preparation of a launcher Proton on the platform №81 where the rocket carrier Proton-M with satellites Glonass-M will be launched.

Space vehicles were created in Reshetnikov Research and Industrial Association for Applied Mechanics to supplement a group of space vehicles of Russian navigating system Glonass (Global navigating system, analogue of the American system of global positioning GPS).

A group of 24 satellites will be created by the end of 2008. For foreign users the system will be accessible in 2009-2010. Development of Glonass system has for Russia and its partners strategic value. Kazakhstan will become one of the participants of the project within the limits of the concluded agreement on interaction and joint participation with Russia in Glonass project.

The rocket carrier Proton-M with three navigating satellites is planned to be launched on September 25.
