Preparation of the rocket carrier Proton-M intended for launch of the Canadian satellite Nimiq 4 proceeds at Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the press service of Federal space agency Baikonur.

Baikonur. August 15. Kazakhstan Today - Preparation of the rocket carrier Proton-M intended for launch of the Canadian satellite Nimiq 4 proceeds at Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the press service of Federal space agency Baikonur.

The forthcoming launch will be carried out within the limits of the contract concluded between International Launch Services (ILS) and the Canadian operator of satellite communication Telesat Canada.

By the order of Telesat Canada several Canadian satellites have already been launched from Baikonur: on May 21, 1999 the space sattelite Nimiq 1 was delivered to the orbit by the rocket Proton-K, on December 30, 2002 - КА Nimiq 2. Space satellites of the similar design as the spacecraft Nimiq have been launched successfully: Anik F1R in 2005 and Anik F3 in 2007. The next launch of the rocket carrier Proton-M with the space satellite of the fifth series - Nimiq 5 has been already planned for 2009.

The satellite Nimiq 4 was constructed on the basis of the satellite platform Eurostar E3000 by the European company EADS Astrium and intended for work in a geostationary orbit. The rocket carrier Nimiq 4 belongs to Telesat Canada - to the national Canadian company of the satellite communication providing data transmission and rendering of broadcast distribution services in Northern America.

The space satellite Nimiq 4 by means of the rocket carrier Proton-M is planned to be launched t from Baikonur in the second half of September, 2008.
