Regional akim to demand pulling down Krishna temple in 10-day term

Almaty. June 6. Kazakhstan Today - The akim (mayor) of Karasay region of Almaty oblast demanded to pull down the Krishna temple and other constructions of the community in 10-day's term. Society for Krishna Consciousness press service informed the agency.

"In the morning, June 6, the local divisional inspector handed over to the Chairman of the Society for Krishna Consciousness the document signed by the oblast akim of Karasay region Kutpanov that according to the decision of courts, the ground areas of the farmer community... have been included to the list of land stocks of the oblast. On the basis of this document akimat (mayor administration) of Karasay region demands in 10-day's term to demolish all "illegally constructed buildings including the temple," the press service of the religious community states.

The Krishna society considers the akim order illegal, as the head of the local administration has no right to demand demolishing of Krishna constructions. The community members plan to appeal against the illegal actions of the oblast akimat of Karasay region in the Office of Public Prosecutor."

As it was informed earlier, the conflict around Krishna community has been lasting since 2004. In November 2006, local authorities pulled down 14 houses of the community.
