Almaty. April 30. Kazakhstan Today - The Seym of Latvia by 65 votes against 23 rejected the faction amendment for human rights in uniform Latvia to the law on celebration and memorable days which offeres to celebrate May 9 as a Victory Day of the Armies of the Antihitler coalition, the Latvian radio informed, the agency reports citing RIA RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

"The parliamentary faction ZaPCHEL also suggested celebrating May 8 not as the day of memory of victims of the Second World War, but as the day of memory of victims of Nazism. According to the faction, those people who suffered fighting on Hitler's side are not deprived of the Latvian authorities' attention," RBC writes.

In honour of the forthcoming holiday, all deputies of ZaPCHEL faction came to the Seym session wearing Georgievsky ribbons.

According to RBC, ten thousand people will gather at the monument to soldiers-liberators in Riga on May 9. This action will displease the Latvian radical organisations, which consider May 9 not as a Victory Day, but the beginning of the so-called the Soviet occupation. In Latvia, May 9 is not celebrated officially.
