State of emergency due to huge oil spill declared in Louisiana

Almaty. April 30. Kazakhstan Today - Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency on April 29 due to the oil spill, the agency reports citing RIA RosBusinessConsulting (RBC).

State of emergency will operate until May 29, 2010. According to the local authorities, threat of pollution due to the massive oil spill, exists, at least, for ten reserved zones in Louisiana and the state of Mississippi. The oil spill of about 1.5 thousand square meters is likely to reach the coast today.

According to the forecasts of experts, if oil leak is not stopped, and the wind blowing towards the coastline does not become weaker, the USA coast will suffer from an ecological accident: all kinds of animals living in this territory will die.

The leaks are in 20 kilometres from the USA coast. The experts have established that the leaks 5 times more than it was originally expected. A blown-out well is spewing 5,000 barrels (800 thousand liters) of oil into the gulf.
