Steppes and lakes Saryarka in the north of Kazakhstan entered UNESCO World Heritage List

The Committee of World Heritage during the 32nd session made a decision on entering of 13 new objects into UNESCO World Heritage List. Among them - Saryarka - steppes and lakes of Northern Kazakhstan," the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

Almaty. July 10. Kazakhstan Today - World Heritage Committee during the 32nd session made a decision on entering of 13 new objects into UNESCO World Heritage List. Among them - Saryarka - steppes and lakes of Northern Kazakhstan," the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

Saryarka represents two state natural reserves Naurzum and Korgalzhin of the total area of 450 344 hectares. Swamped lands covering the most part of the territory of object are extremely important for waterfowl and birds of passage, among which are a number of becoming extinct kinds. The object also includes two groups of lakes: with fresh and salty water. They are located on a watershed separating the rivers, flowing to the north - to Arctic regions and to the south - to Aral-Irtysh pool.

The 32nd session of World Heritage Committee will last till July 10. The session participants are expected to make a decision concerning inclusion into UNESCO list of 13 new objects of natural heritage and 34 monuments of cultural heritage. Five countries are among the applicants: Kyrgyzstan, Papua-New Guinea, San Marino, Saudi Arabia and Vanuatu, the territories of which do not have monuments to be included into this prestigious list. Kyrgyzstan has also asked to include into the list the monuments of its cultural heritage - its sacred mountain Suleyman-Too.

Nature complex of plateau Putoran in Russia has been presented for the List of World Heritage.
