TSO, Agip head list of companies that admitted pollution above threshold
Atyrau. February 18. Kazakhstan Today - Open Companies Tengizshevroil (TSO), Agip KCO and Atyrau oil refining factory head the list of the companies, which admitted environmental contamination above the permitted threshold in 2009, the agency reports citing the Atyrau Regional Nature Protection Public Prosecutor, Bolat Shokay.
B. Shokay informed, "15 companies that admitted pollution above the threshold paid more than 403 million KZT and were fined for the sum of more than 303 million KZT in 2009."
According to the Public Prosecutor, Open Company Tengizshevroil occupies the leading position by the size of damage to the environment. The company has been fined for the sum of 193 million 638.627 thousand KZT. The second place - the Atyrau oil refining factory that has been fined for the sum of 174 million 305.204 thousand KZT and the third - Agip KCO (111 million 628.726 thousand KZT).
"Among the largest penalized companies are Caspiyneft, Sazankurak, Embamunaigas, KazTransOil, AtyrauMunaiGasGeology and other companies," B. Shokay noted.

Oil spill detected in Caspian Sea
According to space monitoring data, received from Sentinel-1A (02:43 UTC), an oil spill was detected on March 30 in the area of Kashagan field in the Caspian Sea. The spill area is about 7 square kilometers. The spill was drifting to the north of the Caspian Sea," the publication reads.
If these facts are confirmed by Atyrau region’s Ecology Department, unscheduled inspection will be conducted at the North Caspian Operating Company. The results will be reported additionally," the Ecology Committee says.
