UN representatives to define actions in case of natural disasters in Central Asian region
Almaty. September 20. Kazakhstan Today - The UN representatives from five countries of Central Asia will define the main directions of actions in case of natural disasters in the region. The manager of the project - Management of risks at the local level in seismic zones of Kazakhstan Alexander Kravchuk informed on Wednesday during the meeting of the representatives of the UN agencies in Almaty.
A number of meetings of the UN representatives from five countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will be held on September 19-21, 2007 in Almaty.
The main idea of the discussion during these 3 days consists in coordinating joint actions in case of natural disasters or technogenic accidents, especially in case of global accidents, for example, serious earthquakes... in the Central Asian region and how in those cases various UN agencies will be coordinated, what actions they will take, and how the United Nations will help the affected states.

Oil spill detected in Caspian Sea
According to space monitoring data, received from Sentinel-1A (02:43 UTC), an oil spill was detected on March 30 in the area of Kashagan field in the Caspian Sea. The spill area is about 7 square kilometers. The spill was drifting to the north of the Caspian Sea," the publication reads.
If these facts are confirmed by Atyrau region’s Ecology Department, unscheduled inspection will be conducted at the North Caspian Operating Company. The results will be reported additionally," the Ecology Committee says.
