Urgent changes need to be introduced in world agricultural policy - UN

In connection with growing food and energy crisis urgent changes to the world agricultural policy need to be introduced. The chairman of the UN General Assembly Srgjjan Kerim stated at the UN General Assembly, the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

Almaty. July 23. Kazakhstan Today - In connection with growing food and energy crisis urgent changes to the world agricultural policy need to be introduced. The chairman of the UN General Assembly Srgjjan Kerim stated at the UN General Assembly, the agency reports referring to the UN News Center.

S. Kerim in his address to the UN member states noted that reduction of grants, increase of tariffs and other trading barriers will stimulate growth of manufacture and will also promote development of 180 million small facilities. All these measures are capable of providing successful realization of Dohin round negotiations.

According to the researches of the International Monetary Fund, growing prices of foodstuffs and oil can shake economy of 75 developing countries. It will also negatively affect GDP in 50 countries of the world, having left more than 100 million people below the breadline. S. Kerim has called upon the UN member states to accept resolution as a response to threats to economy, having noted that the immediate coordinated actions of the United Nations play an important role in solution of the global problem.

The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, expressed concern on occasion of the fact that food and energy crises jeopardize progress in achievement of the goals stated in Millenium Declaration. He also has called upon the states, donors, international financial institutions and all civil society to unite forces in struggle against global problem.
