Western pool of Aral Sea can be restored

Kyzylorda. January 10. Kazakhstan Todау - Western pool of the Aral Sea can be restored. The statement accepted by the participants of the international conference Aral is the Past, Present, and the Future, taken place in St. Petersburg, states, the agency reports citing the conference organizing committee.

"Though, the Aral Sea of the 1960s will not exist in the foreseeable future, the considerable parts of this lake have remained. Small (northern) Aral Sea has been partially restored. It has important ecological and economic value. Though, the east pool of the Big Aral Sea is lost, the western pool can be partially kept and restored, if researches show that it is realizable in the economic and ecological senses. Praiseworthy efforts to protect and preserve parts of deltas of Syr-Darya and Amu Darya have been already undertaken."

"The scientists and representatives from the countries of the European Union (Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Sweden), and Israel, Switzerland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, the USA and Uzbekistan, studying the Aral Sea or interested in it or other similar reservoirs took part in the conference."
