WHO declares global flu pandemic

Almaty. June 12. Kazakhstan Today - World Health Organization (WHO) declared global influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, the agency reports citing the UN press service.

According to the international organization, WHO General Director, Margaret Chan, informed on transition to the highest - the sixth phase of struggle against the influenza A (H1N1) at the press conference in Geneva. The announcement of this phase means the beginning of pandemic.

WHO has received data from 74 countries of the world about 30 000 cases of the disease of the influenza A (H1N1). 141 cases have been fatal.

Transition to the new phase is connected with expansion of geography of spread of the virus. There are two anti-virus drugs available today. A younger age group is more susceptible to the virus A (H1N1). The age group from 30 until 50 is affected more seriously.

WHO Genral Director recommended to the states not to resort to the measures connected with trade embargo, travel restrictions and closing of borders.
