Kazakhstan’s highest-ranked tennis player and world №7 Elena Rybakina will face American Jessica Pegula ranked 3rd in the world in the Miami Open semifinals, Kazinform has learned from Sports.kz.
This is the first Miami Open semifinal for Rybakina who nullified Italian tennis player Martina Trevisan in the quarterfinal match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
As for Pegula, she routed Russian Anastasia Potapova in a three-set match 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 spending 2 hours 38 minutes on court.
Rybakina vs. Pegula showdown is set to take place tomorrow night.
According to the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, presently Elena Rybakina is the WTA leader in number of aces - the Kazakhstani fired 201 aces in 25 matches on tour.

Astana Qazaqstan’s Cees Bol rode an impressive prologue in Heinkenszand. In the 6.6 km opening time trial Bol finished sixth, 6 seconds behind his friend and former team mate Nils Eekhoff (Team DSM).
I really started with the intention to get a top result", explained Cees Bol. "I always like prologues, as long as they are short. Moreover, we have here strong riders, but not all from World Tour level. Two weeks ago I already did a good TT in Dunkerque. Afterwards I took my TT bike home with me to do some extra training with that bike. So, yes, I really started with ambition. Of course I am disappointed, but in the end I did a really good time trial. I suffered for hundred percent but I didn’t make any mistakes. The fact that some guys are faster makes it less heart breaking."
Tomorrow, and with important bonification seconds ahead, there’s an opportunity to chase the yellow leader’s jersey, though the team will work for Mark Cavendish as well, Team’s official website reports.
I hope we can combine both goals. Tomorrow we are still in Zeeland. There will be wind. It would be nice if we could force a nice situation for us in the echelons. It would be perfect to combine both our ambitions", concluded Cees Bol.

Astana Qazaqstan Team rider Mark Cavendish won the final 21st stage of the Giro d’Italia 2023, which ended today in the historical center of Rome. Cavendish won the bunch sprint, scoring his 17th stage at the Italian Grand Tour.
I am very happy! We had a long and challenging journey in this Giro, as many riders in the peloton I got sick during the race, but together with the team we never stopped fighting and believing, and we succeed. My teammates did an incredible job today, protecting and supporting me during the whole day, and also my friends did incredible… Well, it is so emotional moment for me. Indeed, my first Grand Tour stage victory was here at the Giro in 2008 and I am super happy to win again in my last stage of the Italian race. To win here in Rome is so beautiful", - said Mark Cavendish, Team’s official website reports.
The team rode so well, so well, and I want to thank all my teammates for this day and also for the whole Giro d’Italia, we have spent three incredible weeks here!
