North and South Korea to form joint teams for Tokyo Olympics

The two nation's athletes to form joint teams in women's basketball, rowing and canoeing, and kayaking.
North and South Korea are planning to compete as a unified team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 in three sports, including women's basketball, rowing and canoeing, and kayaking, an official website of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan reports.

According to South Korean Sports Minister Do Jong-hwan, it is possible that South and North Korean athletes will form joint teams in table tennis, judo and "other sports".

According to Inside the Games, the news contributes to the evident reduction in the tension between the two states. The two states that are still technically at war hold talks to submit a joint bid for the 2032 Summer Olympics

22 North Korean athletes competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics, as a result of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's announcement on January 1 about the country's readiness to participate. North and South Korea agreed to march their athletes together under one flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics and to field a joint women’s ice hockey team.

The joint team of North Korean and South Korea competed in three sports at the Asian Games this year in Jakarta and Palembang.
