Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of the Security Council focused on the state of the country's space industry, ongoing projects and future development prospects, the Akorda press service said.

During the meeting, the president stressed the strategic importance of the space sector, including its role in ensuring the reliable operation of satellite communications and space infrastructure.

Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev presented a report on the implementation of projects in the sector. The discussion covered the development of satellite systems, infrastructure upgrades and the use of space-based data in the economy and public administration.

Tokayev noted that the global space industry is undergoing significant transformation. Whereas space activities were once concentrated in the hands of a limited number of states, private companies are now playing an increasingly active role in areas such as communications, navigation, broadcasting, space monitoring and internet access.

The meeting also addressed the development of space science and support for research, including astrophysics. The president positively assessed the implementation of the Baiterek project, noting its importance for strengthening Kazakhstan's technological and engineering capabilities.

In addition, Tokayev underscored the need to further expand international cooperation in the space sector, including with Russia and other foreign partners.

Following the meeting, the government was instructed to take measures aimed at modernising the industry and improving the efficiency of space technology applications.
