Almaty. February 10. Kazakhstan Today - An explosion hit the offices of a Bulgarian newspaper early Thursday, shattering windows and damaging vehicles but causing no injuries, Kazakhstan Today reported.

An explosion hit the offices of a Bulgarian newspaper early Thursday, shattering windows and damaging vehicles but causing no injuries, Sofia police chief Valery Yordanov said, Asiaone reported.

The explosion occurred at around 5:45 am (0345 GMT) in front of the offices of the daily Galeria, which has recently published the controversial contents of a number of wire-tapped telephone conversations by leading politicians and officials, including Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

The newspaper's editor-in-chief Kristina Patrashkova slammed the blast as "a political act of intimidation."

Galeria is seen as being close to an ex-security services chief who is currently at loggerheads with the government. Over the past few weeks, it has published a series of compromising phone calls by officials such as customs chief Vanio Tanov and prime minister Borisov.

The blast occurred just hours before four European Union Commissioners were scheduled to arrive in the Bulgaria for official visits, among them EU Home Affairs Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom.
