Dozens Hospitalised in Almaty Region After Visiting Sushi Café
Sixty-five people in Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region suffered food poisoning after visiting the Sushi Time café in the village of Boraldai, KTK television reported.

According to the regional health department, all of those affected had consumed sushi, pizza and other dishes at the establishment. Patients reported symptoms including nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting.

Thirty-six people are currently being treated at three hospitals across the region. Doctors have described their condition as stable. Another 29 patients are receiving outpatient treatment.

The café was temporarily closed following the incident.

Sanitary authorities have collected samples of food products and raw ingredients for laboratory testing and have launched an inspection of the café’s staff. The premises have been sealed pending the investigation.

Final conclusions and decisions regarding further measures will be made after the laboratory tests are completed. Such examinations usually take three to five days," said Muslim Sagadiyev, head of the Ili District Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control.

The affected individuals have not filed complaints with the police. If the inspection reveals violations of sanitary regulations, the café owner could face a fine of up to 2 million tenge, suspension of business operations and confiscation of products.
