More than 80 dead birds found in Quebec town

More than 80 birds have been found dead in a small town west of Quebec City, the Canadian press reports.

Almaty. January 10. Kazakhstan Today - More than 80 birds have been found dead in a small town west of Quebec City, the Canadian press reports.

Residents of St-Augustin-de-Desmaures say the pigeon carcasses began turning up in mid-December.

Local fauna officials have opened an investigation and are sending the carcasses for laboratory tests.

Quebec is only the latest in a series of locations across the world to report the mysterious appearance of dozens, and in some cases thousands, of dead birds.

In Arkansas more than 5,000 birds appeared to fall from the sky around Dec. 31.

Quebec officials are ruling out a connection for the time being.

"For the moment, there is nothing linking these deaths to a particular cause or to the deaths of other birds," said Nicolas Begin, a spokesperson for Quebec's Natural Resources Department.

According to CBC, David Bird, a wildlife biologist at McGill University in Montreal, said, "There are many cases where birds get hit by hailstorms or get lost in the fog and they die of starvation and they just fall dead out of the sky."
